Ginkgo biloba extract
Basic Information
Ginkgo biloba extract is obtained through a specific extraction process using the dried leaves of Ginkgo biloba L., a plant of the Ginkgoaceae family. As one of the oldest tree species on Earth, Ginkgo biloba enjoys the reputation of a "living fossil". Its leaves have a long history of application in traditional medicine, and modern research has further revealed the rich biological activities and extensive application values of ginkgo biloba extract.
Product Characteristics
Appearance: It is usually a fine powder ranging from light yellowish-brown to yellowish-brown with a uniform color.
Solubility: Some components are soluble in water, and its solubility in hot water is better than that in cold water. It can also dissolve well in organic solvents such as ethanol. This solubility enables it to disperse relatively evenly in different product formulation systems, facilitating subsequent processing and application.
Stability: Under appropriate storage conditions, such as being sealed, in a cool place (generally with a temperature not exceeding 25°C) and in a dry environment, ginkgo biloba extract can maintain good stability. However, it should be noted to avoid direct sunlight, because light may cause reactions such as oxidation of its components, resulting in a decrease in the content of active ingredients and affecting the product quality. At the same time, high-temperature and high-humidity environments should also be avoided to prevent problems such as moisture absorption and mildew of the product.
Extraction Process
Solvent Extraction Method: This is one of the most commonly used methods. First, pre-treat the ginkgo biloba leaves by removing impurities and crushing them. Then, select an appropriate solvent, such as water, ethanol, or an ethanol-water mixed solution, etc., and carry out the extraction under certain temperature and time conditions. The extraction liquid is filtered to remove insoluble substances, and then the solvent is recovered through methods such as vacuum concentration to obtain the concentrated liquid of ginkgo biloba extract. Further drying (such as spray drying) is carried out to make it into a powdered product.
